Britain's ex-top cop blasts lawyers blocking Islamists' deportation - Britain's former most senior police officer on Sunday blasted human rights lawyers preparing to block the deportation of hardline foreign Islamists.
Lord John Stevens, the former head of London's Metropolitan Police, which takes the lead on counter-terrorism, said the human rights "industry" had a stranglehold on Britain which long ago stopped foreign extremists being booted out.

"Thursday's long-overdue crackdown was tremendous news. But these men should never have been free at all," Stevens wrote in the News of the World weekly.
"If the human rights industry hadn't managed to secure its stranglehold on Britain, they would have been kicked out years ago.
"Now, hand-wringing civil rights lawyers and like-minded judges will go into top gear to keep them here," the former Met chief wrote...........................
